Why are my Shopify order emails going to spam?
Usually because your store’s email address isn’t set up on your domain inside Shopify. When it isn’t, Shopify sends your order emails from its own address instead, something like store+123@shopifyemail.com, which looks odd to customers and to their email filters. Setting it up takes a few clicks, and Shopify does most of it for you if your domain is with Shopify, Cloudflare, GoDaddy or IONOS.

Why this happens
Shopify can only send as your address once your domain says Shopify is allowed to. Until then it swaps your address for its own. A Gmail or Yahoo address can never be set up this way, because you don’t control Gmail’s settings, so Shopify recommends an address on your own domain.
What to do
- In your Shopify admin, go to Settings, then Notifications, and find Sender email. Use an address on your own domain, like orders@yourstore.com.
- Look for Email domain authentication in the same place.
- Bought your domain through Shopify? This is done for you.
- Domain at Cloudflare, GoDaddy or IONOS? Click Authenticate automatically and sign in when asked.
- Anywhere else? Shopify lists a few settings to add where your domain is managed. Forward them to your web person, then click I updated DNS records. It can take up to 48 hours.
You’ll need a paid Shopify plan for this.
If that didn’t work
If Shopify shows your domain as set up and order emails still land in junk, the cause is probably elsewhere in your domain’s settings or in how much you send. Start with the business email going to spam guide.
What this guide can’t do for you
It covers the common causes. It can’t tell you which of your tools is the one that’s failing, or give you the exact settings for your business and the company that manages your domain. That’s what the Email Fix does. We check every tool that sends email for you and give you steps written for your setup. If we can't find what's wrong with your email settings, you get your $299 back. The guarantee covers your email settings. No settings can fix email sent to people who didn't ask for it, like bought lists or mass emails.

Common questions
Why do my Shopify emails come from shopifyemail.com?
Because your domain isn't set up in Shopify yet. Until it is, Shopify replaces your address with its own so the email can be delivered.
Can I use my Gmail address as the store's sender email?
You can, but Shopify can't set it up properly, because you don't control Gmail's settings. An address on your own domain works much better.
Does this fix my Shopify newsletters too?
Yes. Shopify uses the same sender email for order notifications and its marketing emails.
For your IT person or web developer
You can forward this page as it is. Everything below is written so someone who doesn't work with email settings every day can follow it.
Shopify rewrites the From address to store+[number]@shopifyemail.com until the sender domain is authenticated.
1. Find where the domain's DNS is managed
Look up the domain's nameservers with any WHOIS or DNS lookup site. Nameservers ending in domaincontrol.com mean GoDaddy; ns.cloudflare.com means Cloudflare. Log in there and open the DNS settings for the domain (often labeled “DNS”, “Manage DNS” or “DNS records”). If the owner doesn't have the login, the renewal receipt email usually says which company it is.
2. Add Shopify's records
In Shopify: Settings → Notifications → Sender email → authenticate the domain. Add every CNAME record it lists at the DNS host (they cover DKIM and SPF; no separate SPF TXT record is needed), then click “I updated DNS records”. Domains at Cloudflare, GoDaddy or IONOS can use “Authenticate automatically” instead.
3. Make sure a DMARC record exists
Shopify requires one, at least v=DMARC1; p=none. There must be only one _dmarc TXT record. Avoid strict alignment (adkim=s or aspf=s), which Shopify says can stop authentication working. Automatic setup doesn't add DMARC.
4. Leave the CNAMEs in place
Removing them sends Shopify back to the shopifyemail.com address.
